Located in Lac du Flambeau nestled in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin sits Lake Shishebogama or Lake “Sish” as locals refer to it.

This lake is 716 acres, located northwest of the town of Lac du Flambeau.

The name Shishebogama translates into “the lake with many bays”, which makes sense because this lake stretches out through Oneida County.

Fishing on Lake Shishebogama

With over a thousand lakes and 68,447 total acres of water, Lake Shishebogama is every fisherman’s dream spot. 

Lake Shishebogama consists of several types of game fish. This includes muskie, northern pike, walleye, crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and bluegill.

There is a public boat launch on the northeast shore of Lake Shishebogama, which allows locals, and tourists to enter the beautiful lake.

Lake Shishebogama is often a quieter lake. This is great for fishermen to be able to enjoy peace and quiet. Several people enjoy fishing off of their docs or enjoy going for a cruise on their boat. 

Watersports on Lake Shishebogama

“Lake Shish” is mostly known for its clean and clear water. This makes it appealing for one to jump in and enjoy a nice hot day up north.

You will often witness jet skis, boats, pontoons, tubing, kayaking, and fishing activity when visiting lake Shishebogama. With the lake being so large, there is no doubt that there is enough room for everyone to enjoy the lake.

In the middle of Lake Shishebogama, you will notice a small “Island”. Several northerns love to swim, or boat out to this “island” and hook up their boat or jetski to enjoy time with friends and family. It is a beautiful place to relax, and chill in the cool waters on a hot day.  

Several people often notice signs of majestic wildlife such as the bald eagle, or hawks. Eagles will normally build their nests around the lake high up in the trees.

For the most part, no matter what water sport, or activity you so choose to take part in, the people on lake Shishebogama are all pleasant and fun!

The nights are known to be calm and relaxing. Jet Skis and water skiing are not allowed past 8 pm. This makes it much more enjoyable for everyone to take in the beauty of the lake.

The town of Lac du Flambeau, northeast of Lake Shishebogama has several activities to offer.  In addition to summer activities, Minocqua features a winter park that has become the Midwest’s premier cross-country ski facility.

Family fun opportunities also abound including a wildlife park and mini-golf courses. Vacation rentals, fine dining, seasonal festivals, and shopping. 

Minocqua Winter Park 

Minocqua Winter Park has been around since the 70s. This park truly does have it all. Here, you are able to ski, sled, snowshoe, hike, and skate.

Many people enjoy coming out here to enjoy these activities in the winter months.

Winter on Lake Shishebogama

Winters don’t have to be all that bad when you have such an amazing view of a winter wonderland lake. 

Lake Shishebogama is the perfect lake to snowmobile, ice fish, or walk on during the long winter months. 

As you glide across the lake you will notice Over 365 miles of trails that are maintained for snowmobiles and off road vehicles. When riding along these trails you will discover that some lead to bars, and lake houses. 

The lake is open and easy to navigate when one so chooses to operate a snowmobile. 

Every so often you will see other locals setting up for ice fishing around the lake. This is the best time of year to catch some of those trophy fish you always dreamed of. 

Vacation Rentals on Lake Shishebogama

Lake Shishebogama is home to hundreds of northern locals along the shoreline. Charming house warming cabins, cottages, and private real estate are all available options. 

Lake Shishebogama tends to call out to several northerns in time of retirement, or a family summer home. You will notice for the most part that everyone living on this lake is friendly and approachable.

Black Bear Bar and Grill

Black Bear is an all American grill that serves the best burgers and pizza in town. You can access The Black Bear by snowmobile during the winter season.

Many people love to take their sleds on Lake Shishebogama to access this restaurant.

This is an all time favorite for locals and tourists!

Lake Placid In

Lake Placid In is a great place to grab lunch or breakfast along Lake Shishebogama. 

You will be pleased to notice several knick knacks and decor that surround the restaurant. You may access this restaurant by snowmobile, car, or somewhat close by boat.

County Line Station 

County Line Station is a small gas station located right off  Lake Shishebogama. This isn’t any old gas station though. County Line offers live fishing bait, refreshments, food, winter gear, and drinks. 

All of the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The next time you are headed out on the lake, stop into County Line to grab all of the essentials.
